My honest experience and personal journey through Motherhood; the highs and lows.

Support For Mums With Jojo Maman Bebe

Thinking about the early days evokes so many lovely memories! From bringing Mia home to swimming those murky waters that are the first three months, it’s been a hell of a journey so far. The photos in this post were taken just after Mia was born (notice the ‘4th trimester’ belly). I’m wearing my favourite bits that made me feel super comfortable.

I’ve just finished writing a piece for Jojo Maman Bebe‘s website on the truth about motherhood and what the books don’t tell you (coming 29th March) and thinking back to those early days has made me really nostalgic. The time really does fly by so my top tip is to do everything on your own terms and never compare yourself to other mums!

“One of the major things that always crops up no matter which mummy you’re speaking with…”

Many moons ago, it was natural for babies to be born and raised in homes that not only housed just the immediate family but also the grandparents, aunts and sometimes even friends. This sisterhood was a huge support system for new mums! Unfortunately though, over the years various factors have meant that many of us mums are stretched and actually rather alone now when it comes to raising a baby. Moving to different areas, working, doing the house chores, keeping family updated with pictures and videos, all on top of looking after a baby – makes you tired just thinking about it!

It’s important to look for those ‘easy wins’. Online food shops and nappy subscriptions all come in handy. Brands like Jojo Maman Bebe were great too because I knew whatever I bought would wash well, was made from great quality and would have something for me both during pregnancy and after. It’s also one of my go-to places for baby clothes and baby essentials.

Reliability and support are key which is why I’m sharing this post on how you can actually support us (hurrah!).

You Can:

Kitchen Aid: Bins are always overflowing, recycling is usually mounting up (why do toys and outfits have so much packaging?!) and there’s always spilled milk on the floors and counters. Give me a quick hand by wiping and clearing out.

Food: Thinking of kitchens, I don’t get around to cooking much nor do I remember to eat. Bring me some meals, cook for me or just throw something in the microwave! Dads, if you’re off to work in the morning, consider mum who has been up 4 times in the night. She won’t get chance to make her own breakfast. In our home, it’s Dan’s job to prepare my porridge and honey every day.

Address Labels: Learn how I organise my ‘use by’ food system. Even how I label my cleaning products and sort my stored away clothes and take some of the load off of me. Mums you might want to organise the now too small baby clothes yourself though (ahh, the emotion…).

Thank You: Everyone will want to spoil baby. In the early days, sourcing and writing the thank you cards for all of the lovely generous gifts that Mia and I received was quite time consuming. I wanted those cute ones printed online with a photo of Mia – perhaps do this for me next time?

Take Some photos: Any new mum will tell you that her camera roll is full of pics of baby, baby and Daddy, baby and Grandparents etc. but not so many of mummy and baby! Maybe take a few candid photos of us when we’re not looking?

Mood: One of the most touching and uplifting things Dan would do for me is buy me flowers unexpectedly or cook some pastries. Little gestures go a very, very long way with a new mum.

Sleep: Sometimes it’s not realistic for parents to share the night feeds. But on the weekend I wouldn’t mind a lie. Especially as my ‘workday’ starts at 6am and ends at 11.30pm when the night feed, washing and dishes are done.
