The Modern Nursery
You may remember a couple of months ago (when I first launched LittleInTheCity.com) an Instagram pic that I uploaded of a Panda. Still to this day it’s one that I’m totally obsessed with. It was from The Modern Nursery. For those who don’t know, it’s a website set up by Laura Williams aimed at parents who want modern and contemporary spaces for their little ones to grow, explore and play. Just five minutes spent on the website and I’d already drummed up a basket big enough to warrant an HGV turning up at my front door!
Laura Williams founded the company after leaving British Fashion Giant Burberry, to have a baby. Impressively, she did it all within a year. As I myself took a leap leaving my career last year to have a baby and grow my blog (check out Sassy In The City), I found her story really resonated with me.
Founded in late 2015, The Modern Nursery is an online social hub of all things modern and chic for the Nursery. Laura puts her Instagram and other social success down to the fact that the business has a big lifestyle focus on Laura and her daughter Alba. Laura sells what she herself loves or would buy. I love following her journey building the business and surviving Motherhood at the same time – it really does empower women everywhere!
It all began when Laura was pregnant with her daughter. She struggled to find contemporary items for the nursery that fitted with her style; an ex East London girl who worked in the fashion industry. She had a vision that all nurseries would be modern spaces with beautiful, hand picked contemporary items fitting with the rest of the home but the reality of what the high street offers was different. Laura wanted to build an online store that offered something fresh and unique, with exceptional service so that’s what she set out to do and has never gone off on a tangent.
The website is set out in an easy to read, easy to shop way so you can search for pieces for a nursery, a playroom or even gifts and sleep pods. You can also shop by brand, (great if you have a few favourites).
Storage, lighting and accessories are great places to start if like me you’re about to build the nursery from scratch. Whilst we’ve already chosen our adorable furniture, everything else is pretty much being sourced as I type this. Our colour scheme is pink, light grey and white – modern, just like the website. For those who follow my other blog (Sassy In The City) you’ll know that we recently went through some building work to tear out an old kitchen to make space for a new baby room. So it’s really exciting to have an entirely new room and a blank canvas to build upon.
Here’s what I’m loving from The Modern Nursery right now…
